Texas men's basketball coach Sean Miller has a brand new roster and it might take a little bit to gel. The good news is, in college basketball there's a preseason. The No. 7 Longhorns dropped their exhibition opener Sunday in New York City at Madison Square Garden to the hometown No. 13 St. John's Red Storm.

Sophomore guard Isaiah Johnson scored a team-high 18 points in the loss. Johnson, who was 8-of-11 from the free throw line, also had a team-high four assists and two steals. Junior center Matas Vokietaitis had 14 points and four rebounds. Junior forward David punch added 11 points and led the Longhorns with seven rebounds.

Miller has a brought in several big name transfers such as Punch, Johnson, Amari Evans, Elyjah Freeman, and Mikey Lewis. Texas also has one of the best freshman classes in the nation with Austin Goosby, Bo Ogden, and Marcus Spears Jr. That group is part of a recruiting class ranked the fourth-best in the nation.

Texas opens the 2026-27 regular season when it hosts Chicago State on Monday, Nov. 2. Tip is set for 8 p.m. Central in Moody Center, and the game will be televised nationally on SEC Network.
