The Dallas Cowboys fell to an agonizing 33-30 Week 8 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals at home. The loss dropped coach Brian Schottenheimer’s team to 3-5 on the season, cementing them in second place in the NFC East Division behind the New York Giants.
After the game, fans on X reacted with glee at Cowboys owner, president, and general manager Jerry Jones’ apparent frustration with the result.
One fan rejoiced in Jones’ frustration, citing the polarizing Cowboys owner’s past actions.
“Watching him suffer weekly through his own creation feels like reparations for any player, person, or cheerleader he’s ever done wrong,” the fan wrote.
Another fan slammed Jones’ running of the team since he bought the franchise 37 years ago.
“This team is [expletive] disaster,” the fan remarked. “Until Jerry Jones croaks and his son either sells the team or hires a GM who knows what they’re doing, this team isn’t winning [expletive]. You had a guy who literally lived in a [expletive]) van just beat you. This defense couldn’t stop a Paralympic football team. In fact, the Paralympic football team would spot them 30 points and beat them by 30.”
One fan blasted Jones for failing to hire a competent coach to turn the team’s performance around.
“Nobody to blame but himself. He’s too stubborn to get a real coach in there and be successful,” the fan criticized.
Another fan hilariously pointed out that Jones’s frustrations had become commonplace.
“The Jerry Jones cutaway is basically a tradition at this point,” the fan posted.
“Seeing an angry Jerry will always be awesome to see,” a user on X added.
Another fan admitted that the clip of a disappointed Jones gave them joy.
“Warms my heart,” the fan wrote.
After buying the Cowboys from Harvey Bright for $140 million in 1989, Jones had initial early success, winning three Super Bowls and becoming the first owner in NFL history to do so during his first seven years of ownership. Under Jones, Dallas became one of the most valuable teams in world sports after becoming the first NFL team to win three titles in four seasons.
Jones has also overseen several landmark personnel and business decisions during his tenure, while his vision and leadership have helped drive the concept, design, and construction of AT&T Stadium. Success has eluded the Cowboys in recent seasons, with their last playoff appearance coming in the 2023 season and their last Super Bowl appearance coming in January 1996.
Under Schottenheimer, the Cowboys boast one of the league’s most high-powered offenses that has earned a PFN Offense Impact score of 84.5 (No. 4 in the NFL), but a permeable unit under defensive coordinator Christian Parker that has earned the league’s worst PFN Defense Impact score of 60.6 and negating the team’s offensive threat.
