Liverpool fans are demanding Andoni Iraola must start one player for the upcoming clash against Arsenal after his performance in the Carabao Cup.
On Wednesday night, Liverpool secured their spot Carabao Cup quarter-finals after beating Chelsea in a penalty shoot-out at Anfield.
After Morgan Rogers put the visitors ahead with a first-half penalty, Cody Gakpo equalised with a penalty goal of his own to take the match to a shoot-out, but there was another Liverpool star that stood out to fans.
Just four days after playing Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, Liverpool face their toughest test of the season so far as they welcome Premier League title holders Arsenal to Anfield on Sunday.
Although many wouldn't see Liverpool as title contenders this season, a win over Arsenal could certainly put the Reds in the race, leaving them just three points behind the champions.
With that in mind, fans are clearly eager to ensure that Liverpool head coach Iraola selects the right players to start the match, and after his performance against Chelsea, they're demanding youngster Trey Nyoni is named in the starting team.
Reacting to Nyoni's performance on Wednesday night, one fan wrote: "Nyoni has been our best player yet again. He should be starting against Arsenal."
Another wrote: "I don’t always believe in the talk about blocking pathways, but we have to make sure Nyoni is in any thoughts with our future midfield plans. Kid is a sensational talent, still the most likely to become a long term mainstay."
While one claimed: "We don't hype up Trey Nyoni enough. He's the best at reading the game at the club. Intercepts so many balls. The kids absolutely quality."
And another, clearly equally unimpressed with Ryan Gravenberch's performance, joked: "If I’d never watched Liverpool and you had told me that Nyoni was in his mid 20s and Gravenberch was still a teenager then I’d have believed you."
The stats back up the excitement, as Nyoni had more touches (58) and completed more passes (41) than any other player in the first half vs Chelsea, showing his importance to Liverpool's performance.
