VERSAILLES, France — Kicker Daniel Carlson did not make the flight from New York to Paris with the rest of his teammates, but he had a good reason.
The New Orleans Saints kicker and his wife, Katherine, were expecting the arrival of a baby.
“He’s still in the States,” coach Kellen Moore said. “We’ve talked through this all, we’re all on the same page. He should be out here shortly.”
Carlson is coming off one of his better games in a Saints uniform. He missed his first field goal attempt from 55 yards against the New York Giants last week, but rebounded to connect on field goals of 58 and 51 yards — two kicks that played an important role when the game got close late.
New Orleans is in something of a unique spot as it has a second available kicker as needed with Charlie Smyth on the practice squad.
“We’re expecting (Carlson) to be here,” Moore said. “Obviously we do have Charlie if something goofy happened.”
