As we approach a major milestone in The Rock’s WWE career, reports have revealed that the company plans to celebrate The Great One.
WrestleVotes (via Fightful Select) reports that WWE is planning to celebrate 30 years of The Rock in WWE, three decades on from the star’s debut for the company at Survivor Series 1996.
The report stated that WWE’s plans to celebrate The Rock include having social media campaigns honoring the anniversary of his debut, as well as releases of special merchandise and a commemorative championship belt.
This has fuelled speculation about The Rock’s eventual return to WWE TV, and what could be in store for the Final Boss once he makes his comeback.
There are numerous avenues available for The Rock upon his return, from dream matches to other on-screen roles.
Here are three potential directions for The Rock’s eventual WWE TV return.
The Rock vs Roman Reigns feels like a mythological concept at this point, with this match having been so close yet so far from happening for numerous years.
We were on the cusp of this match taking place in 2024 at WrestleMania 40, before the “We want Cody” movement resulted in plans changing and the American Nightmare instead facing the Tribal Chief.
While the Anoa’i family members have shared the ring as allies, it would feel like a missed opportunity if WWE wasn’t able to get this singles match over the finish line.
With Roman Reigns recently indicating that he still has “a couple to a few years” to tie up loose ends and logic gaps in his career, this match would have to happen sooner rather than later, before both stars step away from the ring for good.
With The Rock’s busy Hollywood schedule potentially preventing him from training for a match, an enforcer role would feel like a happy medium, allowing the star to get physical with minimal training.
With The Rock being a member of the TKO board of directors, it’d make a lot of sense to see Dwayne Johnson enforce rules in a future match, either by threatening to use his executive pull, or by using physical force.
There are a number of options for storylines The Rock could be added to, from the Bloodline’s war against the 946, to Cody Rhodes’ battles amid his character change teases.
This role would allow The Rock to hit a Rock Bottom or People’s Elbow without compromising his filming schedules.
Besides Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes is the star who would be the most fitting opponent for The Rock following a return.
While Rhodes did defeat Roman Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40, this victory came one day after being pinned by The Rock in the WrestleMania 40 Saturday tag-team main event.
With The Rock also being a key player in John Cena’s heel turn at Elimination Chamber 2025 and attacking Rhodes after the American Nightmare refused to give him his soul, there is a lot of unfinished business between the duo.
While Rhodes and The Rock have been shown to be amicable onscreen, it’d be fun to see them stand across the ring from one another in singles action.
