The Las Vegas Raiders once again made the coaching decision to start Caleb Rogers at right guard in Week 7. He struggled mightily in Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The Raiders should strongly consider ending the Rogers experiment immediately.
Klint Kubiak has made the recent decision to start Rogers ahead of Jackson Powers-Johnson. The rebuilding Raiders are clearly interested in evaluating the sophomore guard. Rogers continues showing he's not a starting-caliber guard though.
The former Texas Tech blocker was a weakness versus the Rams' injury-riddled front. Pro Football Focus credited Rogers with allowing two pressures in pass protection while slapping him with his second-lowest grade (53.0) in protection of the season.
The Raiders also continue struggling immensely to run the football effectively. They were somehow even below their standards versus the Rams in Week 7. They were outgained 199-48 on the ground, with Ashton Jeanty being limited to 15 rushing yards on eight carries (1.9 yards per carry).
Rogers was among the Raiders offensive lineman who really struggled as a run blocker. PFF tagged him with a 28.6 grade as a run-blocking guard.
The Raiders felt the need to evaluate Rogers. The process hasn't gone according to plan. Perhaps it's time to re-insert Powers-Johnson into the lineup.
