Andoni Iraola expects Florian Wirtz to be available as Liverpool hosts Chelsea in the Carabao Cup this midweek after the German was withdrawn with an ankle knock against Brighton.
Wirtz said in the aftermath of that clash that he didn't expect it to be a long-term injury. Trey Nyoni replaced him in the second half, with no risks taken with his fitness in a period in which his performances have begun to improve.
Elsewhere, Iraola was unable to be definitive with Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz. The pair have not been ruled out of a return against Chelsea, but the Spaniard said they were less likely to be available than Wirtz.
"He was quite fine, I think Florian, I'm quite optimistic he will be available," Iraola said in his press conference earlier. "With Dom and Victor, I'm not so sure. I don't want to say no, but it's going to be more difficult than Florian."
Last time out in the Carabao Cup, Iraola made several changes to his starting XI, including Giorgi Mamardashvili getting a go in goal.
"There will definitely be changes, but we want to win the game," the Spaniard added. "We want to be competitive. We need to see how the legs are.
"Not just in the Carabao Cup but in the Champions League, we've been trying to make some changes from game to game because I think it’s almost mandatory.
"We want to be in the next round. We have been unlucky in the draw, playing Chelsea, and they've been unlucky also. But we want to earn the right to be in the draw again and that can only happen if you win."
Hugo Ekitike and Conor Bradley remain long-term absentees for Liverpool. The pair are making progress but are not yet close to making a return to team training.
Giovanni Leoni could make a comeback during the November international break. Jeremie Frimpong is likely to be sidelined until at least then.
Get Liverpool's new 2026/27 home kit
Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
"It's the same for everyone — you don't have time," Iraola explained. "We don't have time, Chelsea doesn't have time, Arsenal doesn't. It makes a big difference if you have one more day.
"Against Brighton, we were lucky as we had more days. Everything has to be done on video if you don't have time to prepare.
"Chelsea, Arsenal, Palace, definitely we have less time to rest than the opposition but sometimes you have to adapt. You cannot overthink. It's a matter of adaptation."
