Manchester United’s plans for the manager’s job in the event of Michael Carrick’s departure have emerged, according to a fresh report. Carrick’s future as Red Devils boss has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks, and continues to dominate the rumour mill. United had gone nine matches without a win across all competitions before they claimed a 3-2 win over Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday night. The Red Devils were trailing 2-0 to the Italian club at half-time, before Carrick helped oversee a dramatic comeback at Old Trafford with a penalty from Bruno Fernandes and a brace from Matheus Cunha. Despite the win, Carrick’s future as United boss remains uncertain, and there has now been a fresh update on the club’s plans going forward.
It has been reported by Sky Sports that United will not look to appoint another interim manager in the event they decide to part ways with Carrick over the next few weeks.
Carrick himself was named as United’s interim boss back in January following the departure of Ruben Amorim. He went on to get the job permanently after helping guide the club to a third-place finish in the Premier League, which secured Champions League qualification.

United will face Aston Villa in the Premier League this weekend, where they will be determined to return to winning ways in the top flight.
The Red Devils have fallen to 17th place in the current standings and are only outside of the relegation zone on goal difference. United are also only two points above Sunderland, who are bottom of the table.
This run of form has led to pressure on Carrick’s position as United boss, although the report suggests the club would look to immediately appoint a long-term successor rather than another interim on a temporary basis.
A host of names have already been linked with the United manager’s job, in the event that the club does decide to part company with Carrick.
Villa boss Unai Emery has been mentioned as a potential candidate, but those rumours are unlikely to develop any further after reports that he is about to sign a new contract with the club.
Former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe and ex-Germany and Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann have also been mentioned in the rumour mill as potential replacements for Carrick.
