Sydie Peck makes exciting promise to Sheffield United supporters after Chris Wilder's future hope outlined

England U21 midfielder Sydie Peck reflects on his remarkable night at Deepdale, his growing self-belief and the prospect of one day captaining the club he has called home since the age of 16...

Sydie Peck has promised Sheffield United supporters that there is still so much more to come from him at Bramall Lane after a first senior hat-trick enhanced the England U21 star’s reputation even further. The 22-year-old scored three times in the first half as United won 3-2 at Preston North End on Tuesday night.

That helped the Blades record back-to-back wins for the first time this season as they edged closer to the play-off places ahead of this weekend’s trip to Charlton Athletic, which rounds off another mini block of fixtures before the international break.

Peck will look to continue his good recent form when he returns to his native London while the Blades have already warned potential suitors that they are under no pressure to sell more players when the January transfer window opens soon.

The former Arsenal man has also made himself a regular in the England U21 set-up and Blades fans will be excited to hear that he still believes there is plenty more in his locker.

“I know that I can score goals,” he said. “It's always been in me. It's just about showing that. I've got more to my game that probably no one's seen. The best of me is still yet to come.

“And it's just about showing that on game day and what I can do. It's exciting. I believe in myself more than I ever could, really. I know there's more to my game and more for me to show.

“And that everyone's probably not seen the best of me yet. But I won't chase that. I’m a team player and I’ll make sure the team’s right, first and foremost.”

Some of that improvement will naturally come with age and more experience, although Peck has already played more than 100 times for the Blades in such a short space of time. His self-belief and inner drive will also play a part.

“It’s about me working on things and improving my game,” Peck added. “And there’s still obviously a lot to improve on. As a team we probably didn’t give the fans the right service towards the start of the season.

“We know that there are improvements to be made, and they have been made. We've been working on that on the pitch and hopefully we'll make their days and nights better. And they’ll be going home a lot more with that winning feeling.”

Peck has previously captained United, including in a 5-0 mauling at Ipswich Town that led to Ruben Selles’ sacking, and has been described as a future Blades skipper by current United chief Chris Wilder.

In a way that is the ultimate compliment from a man who knows exactly what it takes to wear that armband, and who wouldn’t just throw it around aimlessly. “IT’s nice to hear that, for sure,” Peck admitted.

“I’ve been here since the age of 16 and I know the club inside out. I know what they want. I know what the club wants, and the gaffer. And it's just about making sure that they get that and that we're a winning football club, which is what Sheffield United should be.”
