'Struggled' 'Out-battled' - 4/10s in Sheffield Wednesday ratings from FA Cup defeat at Oldham Athletic

Sheffield Wednesday are out of the FA Cup after an extra-time defeat at Oldham Athletic.

Familiar problems arose for Sheffield Wednesday as they were dumped out of the FA Cup at League Two Oldham Athletic.

It took 120 minutes to decide a bitty and physical clash in which the hosts took the lead twice. Davis Keillor-Dunn equalised in an improved Owls second half but in possession Wednesday looked ponderous on the ball, producing an xG of only 0.68 despite having been handed 71% possession.

The match marked a first defeat in an opening match for new Owls boss Dave Challinor, who looked a frustrated figure throughout and has problems to solve at S6. Here are our match ratings from a disappointing outing at Boundary Park.

Forced off through injury just 17 minutes in having collided with Fondop.

Wayward in possession early doors but produced one cross that was probably Wednesday's brightest moment of a one-shot first half. Booked in the first half and trod the line once or twice. Off in the break of extra-time.

Won headers and stood up to the physical challenge in duels. Out-blasted by Fondop in the biggest moment of the first half - could've been hairier had the Oldham man stayed on his feet. Won headers - an important return. Ponderous in possession at times.

Back in the line-up and back to the edges of a back three. Sought to move the ball swiftly when he could but showed signs of rust. Defended strongly against the bombardment and did well to get through so much football as he did. Could have moved the ball faster. Hit wide late - and looked to have picked up an issue.

A surprise inclusion wide left - his height proved important in moments. Sliced open for Oldham's opener when he jumped in. Naturally rusty given it was his first outing since the first league game in August. Off after 70-odd.

Sought to get on the ball and push things forward but failed to do it with regularity in a bitty game. Forced Hudson into his first save just before the hour with a strong technical shot from distance. Produced more as the game went on but will be disappointed.

Struggled to get into things consistently. Some nice touches in a congested area. One shot after the concession was probably the highlight from him in normal time - had a better extra-time.

Broke through into the box first half to raise an optimistic penalty appeal. Showed some nice touches in moments and got about the pitch. Involved in a bizarre tet-a-tat with Micky Mellon that saw the Oldham boss red-carded. Generally up and about and grew into it.

Darted through to attempt to get to Valery's first half cross but was a step too late. Lost the ball too easily for the Oldham goal but got a mark back for a calm finish on the turn to level things up. Grew into it.

In from the bench on 17 minutes after Maynard-Brewer's injury. Made a good save early on and was solid enough until he missed his punch for the winner.

A surprise exclusion from the line-up - on after 70 minutes. Immediately made an impact, racing up the pitch and opening things up for the leveller. Followed it up with another couple of bright passes.
