Ross County midfielder Jack Turner says Staggies have enough belief and quality to overcome any obstacle put in front of them

Ross County midfielder Jack Turner believes there is enough quality in the Staggies squad to overcome any obstacles that they face in League One this season.

It has been a stellar start to the campaign for County, who lead the way at the top of the division, albeit on goal difference from a very strong Hamilton side.

Encouragingly, Stuart Kettlewell’s men have found different ways to win. They have been able to blow teams away; as evident in their record-breaking 14-0 win over Hearts B in the KDM Evolution Trophy and their 8-0 thrashing of Queen of the South in league action; but they have also had to grind out victories such as Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Forfar Athletic.

After scoring 74 goals in their 21 matches across all competitions this season, it would be easy to think teams will start to go more defensive against the Staggies, looking to sit in and frustrate them.

Turner suspects that could be the case when County face off against Queen of the South once more this weekend, but he is backing his team to keep finding ways to win.

"The most important thing is winning games,” Turner stressed.

"It's nice to win 8-0 and 14-0 but not every game will be like that.

"We saw that on Tuesday. Not every game will be as flash. We need to grind out results and see where it takes us.

"Queen of the South might go a bit more defensive against us after what happened last time, and a lot of teams will do that against us now with the form we're on.

"We need to find ways to break them down, and the lads have so much belief that hopefully we will be able to.

“With the quality we’ve got in the dressing room, we have goals all over the team, so I feel like we will overcome the challenges we face. I am confident we will do that on Saturday.”

Much was made in the early weeks of the campaign about how a particularly intense pre-season training regiment had primed Ross County to hit the ground running.

With a busy schedule of midweek matches over the last couple of months, if training has had to be adjusted to accommodate them, there have been very few signs of levels dropping on match days.

"Training is important for me at the moment because I've been out of the team,” Turner added.

"You have to train the way you play. That's the mindset of all the lads – we’ve got really good personalities and characters, so it’s probably the best dressing room I’ve been in.

"Training is of a high standard at the moment. It's down to you individually to show the manager in training why you should play.

"We have such really good quality in every position, including midfield, so I have to train as hard as I can and try to make an impression.

"When you have a game on Tuesday, you won't go absolutely mental, but when you have a full week training will still be really intense.

"It's important we keep the fitness levels up because in the games on Saturdays, the last half an hour is where you could end up winning.

"The lads look like they could run forever at the moment. We feel fit and good as a group, hopefully that continues.”
