Leeds United Must Make Final Daniel Farke Sack Decision After Alarming Slump

Daniel Farke has split the Leeds United fanbase.

Some want to keep the German and feel he deserves a new contract, while others believe he should be sacked and replaced due to the club's disappointing recent run of form. Indeed, the Whites have won just one of their last nine matches across all competitions.

They started the season with back-to-back victories over Nottingham Forest - one in the Premier League and Carabao Cup. Successive draws against Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion followed, before they earned a thumping 4-1 win against Newcastle United, leaving the Whites inside the Champions League places with eight points from a possible 12.

But Leeds have since failed to kick on and are now without a win in their last five Premier League matches after they were beaten 2-0 at Bournemouth on Saturday. Goals either side of the break from Evanilson and Amine Adli condemned the Whites to a disappointing defeat.

Although Leeds still sit 11th and in a comfortable position in mid-table, fans are concerned about the recent drop off in form, with some questioning Farke's position at Elland Road.

Should Leeds sack Farke?

It emerged back in September that Leeds were preparing to offer Farke a new contract, with his current deal set to expire next summer. They felt it would be just reward for the club's impressive start and how they ended last season, finishing up in 14th with 47 points.

Despite Leeds' recent slump, there is no suggestion that Leeds plan on abandoning their decision to extend Farke's contract and think he is the man to lead them forward in the long-term.

And, taking it all into consideration, including the form post-Newcastle, Farke does deserve time to turn Leeds' fortunes around and should not be sacked, at least until Christmas.

He has enough credit in the bank and has shown he can flick the switch, having changed his system last December to ensure the Whites remained as a Premier League club.

True or False: 2025/26 EPL True or False

There is no reason Farke cannot do that again, but he must allow his attacking players to have more freedom and use a more front-footed approach first. While that could disrupt his side's excellent defensive record, having conceded just eight times in nine top-flight matches this season, they need to find a way to score more goals.

Indeed, Leeds have found the net just nine times in the league and four of those came in the same game against Newcastle. They have a huge reliance on star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has scored four goals this campaign, and more need to step up and chip in.

A damning statistic that emerged following the defeat at Bournemouth is that out of the 96 teams in Europe's big-five leagues, Leeds rank 95th for final third passing accuracy (56.9%) this season. When taking into account just the Premier League, they rank rock bottom in 20th.

The likes of Harry Wilson, Dan James, Brenden Aaronson and Anton Stach have to do better and are letting Farke down at the moment. They are not producing to the level that is required, and the German may have to change something if performances don't improve, and fast.

Jean-Matteo Bahoya is waiting for his chance to impress, and although Farke issued a 10-minute explanation defending the Frenchman's lack of game time, he should be used more. Leeds are desperate for some attacking impetus, and, as the regular first-team wingers are not impressing, Farke could do no wrong but give Bahoya more minutes.

Saturday's home game against Tottenham does feel crucial for Farke, and if Leeds fail to win, the pressure is no doubt going to rise and the club may pull the trigger. For now though, Farke should be kept at Leeds and given a crack to win the unhappy fans over.
