Liverpool is back in Premier League action with a clash against Brighton that is sure to test Andoni Iraola and his players in another tough encounter.

It's the sort of match that should give the manager some insight into the progress his team has made in the early months of his premiership, and what can be done to take it to the next level. While Iraola may decide on some solutions he can find within the team to improve the performances and results, there are also some transfer decisions that Liverpool could make to back the head coach.

Work will already be underway, with the winter window just over two months away, to find the best possible options in a difficult market to operate in.

So, with that said, here's a look at the latest Liverpool transfer news and rumors ahead of another busy day of action.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Real Madrid)

With a few concerns at right-back so far this season, links have emerged surrounding Liverpool and a return for Trent Alexander-Arnold in the near future.

Considering reports stating that the defender is considering an exit from Real Madrid, a move back to Anfield would make sense, but that may not actually be on the cards.

That's because, according to Football Insider, the 27-year-old is not currently considered a target for the Reds.

The Merseyside outfit is yet to make any concrete decisions regarding a potential push for the right-back, which may halt any talk over a possible return to the club.

Liverpool.com says: Given how early it is in the season, it would seem unlikely that a move for Alexander-Arnold would come into view for a little while yet. Next summer is the most likely scenario for a transfer, meaning that any decision from Liverpool may only come around after the turn of the year. That certainly doesn't rule out a return, especially given Liverpool's struggles at right-back, but it means there is nothing active at the club right now pushing to land the former star.

Malo Gusto (Chelsea)

Continuing on the theme of right-backs, Liverpool has previously been linked with a transfer switch for Chelsea star Malo Gusto as a potential option in the defense.

Reports claimed that a late move for the defender fell through in the summer, while it's unclear whether he is a potential target who could be revisited in the coming months.

Should that be the case, then a race with Manchester City could be on the cards, as TeamTalk reports that the Premier League side remains interested in Gusto, after eyeing a deal in the summer as well.

It's a switch that could see the 23-year-old reunite with manager Enzo Maresca, though Chelsea continues to demand upwards of $93 million for an exit.
