A packed development calendar inevitably leads to a few sudden adjustments. Spurs supporters who were finalising their weekend travel plans to back the academy side will need to quickly adjust their calendars. Football schedules are always subject to late shifts. And Tottenham just confirmed a rather sudden change of plans impacting the youth setup.

The Under 19s will have to wait a little longer before getting their cup journey underway.

A slight delay for the opening round

Throughout the week, the coaching staff had the players fully focused on a tricky away test originally scheduled for this coming Sunday, November 1. The initial game plan involved making the long trip down to Somerset to take on Bridgwater United in the opening round of the competition. However, the timeline is now completely scrapped.

After a reshuffle, the club has officially made the announcement that the fixture has been pushed back by one week. Instead of hitting the road this weekend, the teenage prospects will now play the newly rearranged cup tie on Sunday, November 8.

Extra preparation time before heading to Somerset

While the date on the calendar has certainly changed, the actual matchday logistics have not moved an inch. When the eighth of November finally does roll around, the squad will still be heading out to the Ethan Berry Pavilion to play against the FAWNL Division One South West outfit. However, the match’s scheduled to kick off at 2 pm GMT.

Ultimately, this unexpected break could easily act as a blessing in disguise. Because they are not travelling this weekend, the Under 19 side gets a full extra week of intense work on the training pitch at Hotspur Way. That extra breathing room gives them time to fine-tune their tactics and properly prepare for a highly competitive away day.
