Michael Carrick was spotted having a 'robust' exchange with one player during Manchester United's 4-1 Champions League humiliation at the hands of Como.
United conceded inside two minutes in the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium, and it took just under four minutes in the second half for them to go 2-0 down.
Things got worse for an increasingly ragged United side as Nico Paz scored his second goal of the game on 57 minutes to make it 3-0, before Jacobo Ramon made it 4-0. Substitute Joshua Zirkzee made it 4-1 with his first goal of the Champions League season but it was nothing more than a consolation.
Whether the Como defeat ends up being the last knockings of Carrick's reign in charge remains to be seen, with pressure having increased on the United head coach following a series of poor results and performances in recent weeks. But one incident involving Carrick and Matheus Cunha certainly doesn't appear to be a good sign for United.
Carrick made two half-time substitutions against Como, with Carlos Baleba replacing Andrey Santos in midfield and Amad replacing Cunha.
The Cunha substitution came as a surprise to some United fans, though The Sun's Samuel Luckhurst reported that Cunha and Carrick had a 'relatively robust exchange of views' during a stoppage in the first half of the defeat.
And fans have raised the same concern about the pair's relationship at Old Trafford.
"If Carrick stays, he's definitely going to look to sell Cunha," one fan wrote. "I think he's basically given up on him at this point."
"Cunha has been treated very unfairly by Carrick," a second stated.
"Why is Cunha off for Amad, a player who hasn't scored since December?" a third asked.
While a fourth queried: "What did Cunha do that makes Carrick treat him this way?"
Cunha started all five of United's opening fixtures in all competitions to start the 2026/27 season, providing an assist in the 5-2 Premier League win over Ipswich Town and scoring in the 4-0 win over Sabah in the Champions League.
But the Brazil international has found himself on the fringes of the squad recently; he played a combined total of 19 minutes from the substitutes' bench against Atletico Madrid and Leeds United.
This was only his second start since prior to the international break in September, therefore, and it is not one he or United will remember with any kind of fondness.
