Through five starts this season, Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young has yet to have a truly bad game. The team's Week 3 loss in Cleveland was his worst, and he still managed to put up nearly 300 yards and a touchdown.
This past Sunday, Young faced the Philadelphia Eagles on the road and dished out another respectable performance despite another poor performance from his offensive line. He only completed just over half of his throws (20-of-39), but totaled 281 passing yards and two touchdowns and committed zerp turnovers in the 25-14 win.
For his efforts, Young has earned a 'B+' grade from Brent Sobleski at Bleacher Report. Sobleski writes:
Young's 51.3 completion percentage was his worst effort this season. However, he became only the fourth quarterback in the last 15 years to open a season with at least 280 passing yards and two touchdown passes in each of his first five games, according to Pro Football Focus. Some guys named Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning. To take things one step further, two of those previous three were named MVP during the season they accomplished the same goal.
The MVP chatter is likely going to remain an analyst-only phenomenon, at least so long as the Panthers don't have one of the best records in the league.
Nevertheless, this has been an exceptional season from Young—who has had to navigate several injuries at wide receiver and, arguably, the worst pass protection in the NFL for any starting quarterback. He enters Week 7 averaging a league-leading 309.8 passing yards per contest with 12 total touchdowns to just two interceptions.
