Zak Miller's featherweight title fight against Gully Powar on the Zuffa Boxing card was called off after the Englishman suffered gruesome facial injuries, with many describing them as the 'worst' they've ever seen.

Miller was fighting Powar for the vacant British featherweight title on the undercard of Joshua Buatsi and Willy Hutchinson's title fight in Manchester.

The pair produced a compelling and competitive dust-up until the referee was forced to wave off the contest after their heads clashed and Miller suffered revolting injuries to his skull.

How Zak Miller suffered gruesome facial injuries against Gully Powar

A back-and-forth fight at Manchester's AO Arena gave the judges ringside little to separate the pair in an exciting brawl before a clash of heads changed the course of the dramatic showdown.

At the end of the seventh round, Miller was left with a severe lump above his left eye, while a cut had also opened above his right eye.

The former champion was then left with a giant lump, this time on the right side of his head, with two severe-looking hematomas leaving him in a bad way.

A doctor immediately examined Miller in the ninth round as the swelling continued to grow, but he was somehow allowed to continue for two more needless rounds after the ringside doctor gave him the go-ahead.

Thankfully, once the swelling reached a point of no return and the ringside physician gave the 29-year-old another look, the referee took one glance at the horrific injuries and waved off the contest so Miller could receive treatment.

After the examination, the judges scored the fight in Powar's favour, 96-95, 97-94 and 96-94, crowning him the new British featherweight champion. But while the 24-year-old was elated to secure victory, fans were in disbelief about how long it took his opponent to be pulled out of the action.

“Hope Zak Miller is ok. The doctor let that go on for another two rounds," one person wrote.

"Crazy for the corner and doctor to not stop it earlier," another commented.

"Awful swelling, disgustingly cowardly doctor letting that fight continue," someone else pointed out.

"An absolutely disgusting amount of swelling on the head of Zak Miller tonight. I hope he's all okay," a fourth stated.

Ade Oladipo and Carl Frampton left stunned by Zak Miller's injuries

The revolting injuries Miller suffered were a huge cause for concern, and DAZN presenters Ade Oladipo and Carl Frampton were left shell-shocked.

“I’ve seen some hematomas in the sport, but that is one of the worst I’ve ever seen," Oladipo said before former world champion Frampton added: “That is the worst I’ve ever seen.”

Hematomas are relatively common in boxing due to the high volume of direct impact to the head and face. Frampton sustained multiple across his career, but even he was stunned by how bad Miller's were.

At the time of writing, no update has been offered on the Briton's injuries and how long they will potentially keep him out.

Defeat against Powar was only the second of Miller's professional boxing career, having secured 17 wins from 19 fights.
