Atrás
Tennessee football has reached its bye week. With four games left to play, the Vols have the Saturday off as they prepare for the final stretch.
There’s still plenty of pivotal games being played, though. A handful of them could even have serious implications on Tennessee’s playoff hopes, with the Vols at 6-2 (3-2 SEC). Here’s who to root for.
This one may be the most important of the day for Tennessee. Not only would an Auburn win really start to make the Vols’ win over the Tigers more and more impressive and raise the strength of schedule, but it would hand Ole Miss its third loss. That’d slide UT ahead of the Rebels for now and maybe take them out of the playoff race.
It’s still strange that Tennessee will play neither Georgia nor Florida this year. However, their annual neutral site matchup still could affect the Vols’ season. The Bulldogs enter the game with one loss, and the Gators have two. I think it’d be best for Georgia to hand Florida its third loss to get them potentially out of the playoff picture. There’s a good chance if the Gators do pull off the upset, both teams could finish the year with two losses and be in the field.
This one isn’t too important, but it could simply help Tennessee’s resume. If Georgia Tech wins, it’d improve to 3-5 (2-3 ACC). A loss would make the Yellow Jackets slide to 2-6 (1-4 ACC).
You could make arguments on both sides of this one. Would you rather have Texas suffer its third loss or be propped up to make Tennessee’s loss look better? To me, I think it’d be more beneficial for the Longhorns to drop the game.
This is another game that could have a positive result on both sides if one team wins. If Arkansas takes down Missouri, the road win in Fayetteville will look better. It’d also be the third loss for the Tigers, which, again, would drop them behind Tennessee for now.
