Eddie Howe tipped to turn down offers from Everton and two other Premier League clubs

Eddie Howe has been enjoying a break from the world of football management having parted ways with Newcastle United this summer, but could be back in the mix in the imminent future

Eddie Howe is expected to reject management proposals from the likes of Everton, Crystal Palace and Fulham this summer. The 48-year-old parted ways with Newcastle United this summer following an impressive five-year stint with the club, succeeded by Matthias Jaissle.

While fans of the Magpies will have fond memories of Howe, given he managed to guide the Toon Army to consistent Champions League qualification - on top of their first domestic title in almost 56 years in the form of the 2025 Carabao Cup - the atmosphere grew frosty toward the Englishman toward the end of his tenure.

Not only was Howe only able to inspire a 12th-place finish last season, but the Amersham-born head coach also saw his pulling power regarding player sales diminish over the summer - Newcastle cashing in on the likes of Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

As a result, Howe decided to move on from the club, with Jaissle arriving as his successor shortly afterward. The former Al-Ahli leader has endured a mixed-bag start to 2026/27, with Newcastle sitting 11th in the league standings with two wins, two draws and three losses from their opening seven.

Howe, meanwhile, has been enjoying a well-deserved break from the managerial game following five years of solid work at St James' Park. However, that could change in the near future.

Football Insider report that Everton, Crystal Palace and Fulham could make ambitious approaches for the Premier League proven manager this season, amid uncertainty regarding their own leadership. David Moyes' current contract expires at the end of the current campaign, so the pressure is on for the Scot to impress at Hill Dickinson Stadium in the coming days, weeks and months.

Pierre Sage and Alvaro Arbeloa are also under the cosh at present, following sub-par starts to 2026/27 which have left Palace and the Cottagers sitting 14th and 18th respectively after seven games played.

However, as per ex-Manchester United chief scout, Mick Brown, Howe will have no intention of returning to another mid-table club for his next assignment. He explained: "Eddie Howe is still out of work, so I expect he will be linked with almost every job that comes up.

"Whether it's Crystal Palace, Fulham, even Everton if Moyes leaves, he is going to be tipped as a contender for all of those jobs because of how highly regarded he is. But I can't see Eddie Howe going to a mid-table club like Palace or Fulham at the moment, I expect he's going to be aiming a bit higher, with all due respect to those clubs.

"I'm sure they would consider the possibility, but at the moment I think he would turn down any offers that came his way unless it was a really big job. He'll be looking to take over at a top club because look where he was with Newcastle, he had them playing in the Champions League, so that's where he will want to stay.

"It's difficult for clubs like Palace, because where do they look for these top managers? They've tried something outside the box with Sage and it hasn't worked out for them.

"But when you're struggling to win games, it's also hard to attract top managers, and Howe isn't likely to be taking over there."
