The Royals midfielder has found first-team opportunities harder to come by this campaign but has still enjoyed several notable highlights, including a Wales call-up and an eye-catching performance against Premier League opposition in Brentford in the Carabao Cup.
Savage has only made 10 league appearances this season, all of which saw him come off the bench rather than start. Andy Rinomhota has been favoured by Leam Richardson this season as the midfielder partnership with captain Lewis Wing.
While Savage admits he is desperate to make a bigger impact at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, he believes his professionalism and preparation have put him in the best possible position to seize any opportunity that comes his way.
Reflecting on the campaign, the 23-year-old insisted he has no regrets about his efforts behind the scenes.
"I'm very proud because I pride myself on giving myself the best opportunity to play," Savage told The Reading Chronicle.
"I've left no stone unturned and prepared as much as I can."
Despite seeing his game time reduced, Savage has continued to earn recognition at international level with Wales and produced an impressive display against Brentford when called upon.
However, the midfielder accepts football can be unpredictable and says some factors are simply beyond a player's control.
"Some things happen in football and that's just how it goes," he said.
"But I can look myself in the mirror and be proud of my season from a personal point of view."
Savage remains determined to force his way back into manager Leam Richardson's plans and is hoping future opportunities will allow him to contribute more consistently.
The former Manchester United academy graduate added: "I'm just itching to contribute more to the team and, if needed, hopefully have an impact."
