Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel has been admitted to intensive care after collapsing during a Spanish second division clash with Andorra on Monday.
The 30-year-old is in stable condition, the club has confirmed, after a horrifying collision with goalkeeper Jesus Owono led to the fixture being abandoned deep into stoppage time with the scores level at 2-2.
A club statement read: 'CD Tenerife player Jesús de Miguel is admitted to the ICU at the University Hospital of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, stable despite the severity of his condition.
'The medical services at said hospital will be present and will report when there are updates.'
De Miguel is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest while being transported to hospital and had to be revived inside the ambulance, according to Spanish media outlet Marca.
It has also been reported that while the Spaniard is stable, he remains unconscious.
The game had entered the seventh minute of stoppage time when De Miguel looked set to race away on the counter-attack for Tenerife in search of a winner.
As he watched a long ball drop into his path, the striker appeared to be struck in the chest by Owono's flying knee as he attempted to clear the ball near the halfway line.
After initially rolling around on the floor, De Miguel became motionless, and medical staff rushed onto the pitch to attend to him.
De Miguel was seen to for over five minutes while his team-mates were visibly distressed, with some appearing to be in tears.
Owono was initially given a red card for the challenge before the decision was soon taken by the referee to abandon the fixture.
Andorra also released a statement, which read: 'We want to send all our strength and best wishes to Jesus de Miguel after the serious incident suffered during today's match.
'We hope he recovers soon. A very strong hug to the player, his family and Tenerife.'
