Derek McInnes endured a difficult night on and off the pitch on his return to Tynecastle on Wednesday.
McInnes almost masterminded an incredible Scottish Premiership title triumph for Hearts in 2025/26, only to be pipped on the final day of the season by Celtic, having been at the summit of the table for the majority of the campaign.
McInnes then swapped Hearts for Rangers in the summer, however, taking over from Danny Rohl, who left the club by mutual consent to take up the post at Red Bull Salzburg.
McInnes was booed by the Hearts crowd, despite what he did for the club, regularly as he brought his Rangers side to his old club and the Gers were not given an easy ride on the pitch either.
The visitors did take the lead in Edinburgh, with Kevin Kelsy slotting under Beau Reus after a neat one-two with strike partner Ryan Naderi.
But, the goal apart, Rangers enjoyed very little of the first half, despite holding that lead to the interval and things did not get any better after the break, with Claudio Braga levelling up soon into the second half. Calvin Miller then turned the game completely on its head with a goal to make it 2-1 to the home side. And that is how it stayed until the 89th minute when Olwethu Makhanya equalised for Rangers to secure a share of the spoils.
Just before that second goal, McInnes decided to make a change. He did not like what he had seen in the first period and let the same team head back out onto the pitch to show they were capable of improving. They were not and McInnes made a change within ten minutes of the second half.
Gers fans on social media had already been talking about a number of players having a "stinker" and it was one of those - Djeidi Gassama who was hooked.
Gassama touched the ball just 19 times during his time on the pitch and was successful with only four of the seven passes he attempted on the night. He attempted one cross, which did not find a teammate and tried two dribbles, only one of which was successful. The forward was involved in five duels, winning two of them and registered zeroes when it came to shots, xG and touches in the opposition box.
It was a night to forget for the Mauritanian who has four assists to his name this season.
Badredine Bouanani was the man to come on in his place and after that display, Gassama may find it difficult to win his place back.
