Another early double-digit first-quarter lead didn't last for the Tennessee Titans. After losing a last-second game against the Cleveland Browns last week, the Titans lost another last-second battle against the other Ohio team, the Cincinnati Bengals, 43-36 in overtime.
Titans running back Tony Pollard had another 115-plus-yard game, quarterback Cam Ward had arguably the best game of his career with 304 passing yards, and safety Amani Hooker intercepted Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow three times. Unfortunately, it still wasn't enough as the Titans fell to 1-7, including 1-5 in one-score games.
After trading star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons to the Chicago Bears late last week, veteran Solomon Thomas led the Titans' defensive tackles in defensive snaps this week. Here’s a look at the snap counts from Tennessee's Week 8 loss to the Bengals.
Despite Thomas leading in snap counts among the defensive tackles, he only produced one tackle in his 51 defensive snaps. Defensive end Jacob Martin had the best day along the Titans' defensive line, producing three sacks and five QB hits to follow in the footsteps of Simmons.
Among the other notable snap counts was former starting cornerback Alontae Taylor playing 51 snaps from the nickel position following the ankle injury to starter Marcus Harris. Also, wide receiver and return specialist Chimere Dike received the second-most snaps at wide receiver with 63 snaps.
Both Taylor and Dike were productive in their field time, with Taylor contributing five tackles and two QB hits, and Dike contributing five catches for 71 yards and a touchdown. The Titans will get some much-needed rest as they enter their bye week in Week 9.
