Pakistan skipper Shaheen Afridi turns to another experienced seamer in all-rounder Faheem Ashraf.
The 32-year-old bowls with decent control with his first four deliveries, cramping Ben Duckett for room with a tight line.
Ben Duckett drills one slightly overpitched but Saim Ayub manages to pull of a superb diving stop at point.
Final ball of the over is thrashed through the gap, though, for four.
Nawaz fell for a brilliant 79 with 10 overs to go, leaving the innings in the balance, but Arafat took on the responsibility and added 72 off just 49 balls with Faheem Ashraf.
Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf added a flurry of boundaries in the final couple of overs which took Pakistan past 300, and it should be a competitive chase.
Sonny Baker finished with 3-65 while Jamie Overton was exceptional with his spell of 1-38.

This is a fantastic knock from Arafat Minhas. This is getting to a defendable total for Pakistan.
Minhas is seeing the ball excellently and he's hitting the ball anywhere due to the bowling from Sonny Baker.
They could make 310/315 now and with the new ball bowlers they have they could make it really difficult for the England batters.
Since the rule change, there has been a slight shift back towards the effectiveness of seam bowlers in overs 35+ of ODI cricket, with more swing on offer to seam bowlers and a marginally reduced economy rate:
Since rule change (2nd July 2025) - 0.74° | Econ 6.5
From 2023 to rule change - 0.64° | Econ 7.1
Well, well. South Africa are 216-6 at lunch on day three of the second Test in Gqeberha - something that did not look likely at 110-6.
Temba Bavuma and Marco Jansen have held firm, however.
Playing contrasting knocks, Bavuma is 76 not out from 189 balls and Jansen, who has never scored a professional century, has biffed his way to 72 not out from 71.
Adil Rashid has taken a wee bit of tap, but the confidence of a bowler of his vintage is he's not frightened to give it a bit of air still.
The experienced England leg-spinner tosses one up to Saad Baig who takes on the sweep but the ball spoons up off his pad and over Jamie Cox's head for a leg bye.
Saad shows a bit more conviction off the final delivery of the over - holding the pose after chipping a lofted drive back over Rashid's head for four.
Plenty of height on that before it plopped just in front of the boundary and dribbled over.
Reward for Will Jacks and it's the big one!
Jamie Overton with a tight-ish over and England get the breakthrough they have wanted and Jacks' persistence and accuracy pays off.
The England all-rounder manages to get one to skid on and Babar Azam decides to go back to one and is bowled through the gate.
Babar slumps on to his bat.
It's short again from Sonny Baker and Saim Ayub takes on the hook shot.
However, the Pakistan batter does not make clean contact and ends up sending it high into the hazy sky
Sam Curran has to wait and age but manages to hang on.
A bit soft, but England are delighted.
