Rangers fans have made it clear that they want Derek McInnes to take decisive action with regard to Emmanuel Fernandez.

The Nigerian has been a regular starter under McInnes this season, having already made 15 appearances, playing every game in every competition.

Rangers fans joined the debate on TalkingPoints as well as on Rangers News’ official Facebook page about how McInnes should get the best out of Fernandez. While the centre-back has played regularly for the Ibrox outfit, he has not looked assured at the heart of their defence. The 24-year-old has made a number of mistakes this season, in and out of possession, proving to be a bit of a liability.

Regular TalkingPoints user @stuartlogan68 believes that it is time for Fernandez to be taken out of the playing eleven. In his view, the Nigeria international has been too casual in possession and lazy out of it. He believes that Ben Godfrey will be a much better fit.

@therealjag also agrees with him, and along with the former Peterborough defender, he also wants Djeidi Gassama to be dropped. The left winger has also been a mainstay under McInnes, but has not delivered the end product on a consistent basis.

Drop gassama and Fernandez for a bit. Both playing like they can’t be dropped and it’s showing in their poor performances.

Fans on Facebook also appear to share the same view, and have stated that the selections should be a meritocracy, and that the 24-year-old is not justifying his inclusion in the side. Some have even gone so far as to say that he should be sold for a profit as he is not going to improve at Ibrox.

While @jammy1ne tends to agree with the rest of the fans, he does not think dropping Fernandez will be easy. He has explained that the defender’s aerial threat makes him a set-piece threat and that he has already formed a good understanding with Dujon Sterling at right-back.

Godfrey’s name has been mentioned to replace the £3m signing, but McInnes has been told to ease into it and give the English defender a start against lesser teams at Ibrox to get him used to starting games for Rangers.

It’s a big call to drop Fernandes , his aerial dominance in the box at corners and he has built an understanding central defensive partnership and with Sterling at right back , maybe in some games against the so called lesser teams at ibrox we could put godfrey in to to see how it fairs ,
