Ruben Amorim FUMES at officials after AC Milan goalkeeper is sent off for pushing Bournemouth star in the FACE

Ruben Amorim went ballistic on the touchline as he suffered a nightmare return to England, losing 3-0 with AC Milan at Bournemouth in the Europa League.

The former Manchester United manager was furious that his goalkeeper Mike Maignan was sent off in the first half for pushing Tyler Adams in the face.

Amorim flew off the handle on the sidelines and fronted up to the fourth official, but had little cause for complain as his side's European middling campaign took a turn for the worse.

And there appeared to be a mix-up on the touchline as he sent on replacement Lorenzo Torriani before bringing anybody off, leading to ridicule.

Bournemouth could hardly have imagined a more generous start to their glamour tie, as Milan gifted them two penalties in a first half of anarchy and farce.

They were already 1-0 up thanks to Justin Kluivert's penalty when Maignan's head-loss gifted Marcus Tavernier a spot-kick, which he promptly scored.

Maignan hung around for a couple of minutes during a VAR check and left the field reluctantly, giving referee Vassilis Fotias a piece of his mind.

Omari Hutchinson appeared disappointed to come off early to make way for substitute goalkeeper Torrianai and Amorim comforted him.

Milan regained their composure to get to half-time only 2-0 down, but Amorim waited by the touchline for the officials, seemingly ready to give them an earful.

Yet when the officials reached him, the Portuguese gaffer seemingly bit his lip and it was unclear if he said a word to them before stalking off.

Towards the end of the match, Amorim could only hang his head in disappointment as Amine Adli curled in a free-kick for Bournemouth to make it 3-0.

Amorim has had an average start at AC Milan, who sit fourth in Serie A and 24th in the Europa League - the final play-off spot.

The 41-year-old has stuck by the three-at-the-back system which saw him fail at United but has hinted he could adapt.

While derided for his stubbornness at Old Trafford, he said after a 2-0 defeat by Benfica last month: 'I change all the time, we need to start with a base, we have two months of work.

'We lost tonight, but we will find the solutions to adapt to these games, because we need to create an idea, but we also need to win, so of course we can adapt.'

Amorim was sacked in January with United sixth in the Premier League after a £250million summer spend.

He was in charge at Old Trafford for 14 months during a turbulent period in which United endured their worst season in more than half a century and missed out on Europe for only the second time in 35 years.

In an explosive final press conference, the man who led United to the 2025 Europa League final said: 'I came here to be the manager of Manchester United… not to be the coach of Manchester United. That is clear.'

Returning to England, he has been asked about the future of Michael Carrick, his successor who has United 13th in the Premier League.

'The most important thing is that I am here as the manager of Milan, and I need to respect that,' he said.

'What I said when I signed for Manchester United, that I love that club and the people there, remains true.

'What happened since doesn't change that. That's all I want to say on the matter. I've moved on and I'm at another great club now. My club, Milan, has plenty of issues to address.

'I'm focused on my own life and our collective journey here because, as you know, at any big club, challenges are always just around the corner. So, I am fully focused on my work, my team, my players and my staff, not on what's happening at another club.

'But, as I said, it doesn't matter what happened in the past with Manchester United. My feelings from when I first joined that club remain exactly the same. I still love that club.'
