The Jacksonville Jaguars' NFL matchup against the Houston Texans at Wembley Stadium was brought to a halt early in the first quarter after injured referee Larry Smith had to be carted off the field.
Trevor Lawrence and his Jags offense were preparing to start their second possession of the game when Smith hit the deck trying to retrieve the ball for the resumption of play. A crowd quickly gathered around the official before a cart was brought onto the field.
Smith was eventually carted off and waved to the fans with his hat before play resumed. The incident underscored an already cagey start for both the Jaguars and Texans, with both defenses doing their job early on.
However, with just over six minutes left on the clock, Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud connected on a deep ball to receiver Nico Collins to place Houston on the Jags’ 10-yard line.
On second down, the Texans found the breakthrough in a divisional game they've had the upper hand in since entering the NFL in 2002.
Stroud found tight end Foster Moreau in the end zone before Ka'imi Fairbairn kicked the extra point.
The Texans headed into this matchup looking to build some momentum following a 0-4 start to the 2026 NFL season.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans' men scored their first win in emphatic fashion last weekend against the Tennessee Titans before confirming that the Texans had traded for Arizona Cardinals receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
The 2024 fourth-overall pick is making his Texans debut in London, but had to wait to get onto the field as Stroud continued with his favored target, Collins.
Harrison Jr. faces a tough test when he enters play against the Jaguars, who are rated one of the NFL's top defenses.
He may be faced with getting the better of the 2025 second-overall pick and two-way star, Travis Hunter, should the Texans deploy him out wide.
Texans fans hoping to get a long look at the OSU product may have to wait another week or more. Ryans hinted that Harrison Jr. will get a “handful of plays” against the Jags.
"We'll get him rolling this week. We'll try to get him a handful of plays, whatever he can handle," Ryans said.
"But he's fit in very well, and I hope he knows that he's wanted here. He's well thought of. We just want him to go be himself, fly around, and be the playmaker that he's always been."
