Liverpool could be one of the busiest Premier League clubs in terms of transfer business in 2027, given the areas that already look to need strengthening as well as others that could be impacted by contract situations.
On the pitch, Liverpool looked on course for back-to-back Premier League defeats when they trailed Brentford 1-0 with 30 minutes to play on Saturday, but two goals from Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak in the space of eight minutes gave them all three points and lifted them up to fifth position.
Andoni Iraola revealed post-match that the Reds have lost Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong for 'some time' after they picked up injuries at the Gtech Community Stadium, with the Merseyside outfit already without long-term absentees Giovanni Leoni, Hugo Ekitike and Conor Bradley.
Recent injuries to Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo only further highlighted the lack of depth in the squad, and if Virgil van Dijk and Alisson fail to extend their expiring contracts, then new sporting director Julian Ward will have a big to-do list next year.
Midfield still looks to be a key area for the club to strengthen, with Liverpool failing to replace Curtis Jones externally following his move to Inter Milan in the summer.
The Merseysiders will point to the fact that the likes of Trey Nyoni and James McConnell are stepping up in his absence, but there are also doubts over Alexis Mac Allister's future after the club told him they were unable to offer him a new contract in the summer.
Liverpool's current central midfield options:
Liverpool have been heavily linked with Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott in recent weeks, and he is a target, according to GIVEMESPORT sources, along with AS Monaco's Lamine Camara and AS Roma's Manu Kone.
The Reds have been linked with a new midfield target in recent days though, according to reports from Switzerland, in Aston Villa new-boy Johan Manzambi.
4-4-2.ch claim that Liverpool decision-makers are consistently speaking about the qualities of Manzambi in internal meetings at Anfield.
Club chiefs have reportedly decided to monitor the 21-year-old all season long, and it is no surprise given what the £50m star has shown in recent weeks in a claret and blue shirt.
After scoring three goals and registering a further two assists in just two starts for Switzerland at the World Cup, it was no surprise that there was a Premier League scramble for Manzambi's signature, which Villa came out on top of.

The youngster has only made six appearances for the Midlands outfit so far, with four of those being starts, but he already has three goals and three assists, including the winner against Newcastle United on Saturday.
Presenter Dan Bardell raved over the Swiss star following his display at St James' Park, posting on X, saying he's forgotten about Morgan Rogers following the England international's summer move to Chelsea, because of Manzambi.
Johan Manzambi has been so good, I’ve not even thought about the loss of Morgan Rogers. Rogers is a fine player, started well at Chelsea, but I genuinely think Manzambi will end up being world-class. His ability is ridiculous.
Alex Scott is clearly a good player given what he has shown at both Bournemouth and for England in recent months, but there are clear signs from what we've seen so far from Manzambi that he has bigger potential and is a almost guranteed future superstar.
What is also clear is that having bought him for £50m, and demanded more than £115m for Rogers, Aston Villa will tell Liverpool or any other potential interested suitor they are going to have to pay big money to prise him away from Villa Park.
Manzambi already looks like a player who could make a difference in Liverpool's midfield now, and Ward and Iraola have a big decision to make in 2027 if they do choose to bring in a new midfielder.
