Despite spending three years at Paris Saint-Germain and scoring some crucial goals, Gonçalo Ramos (25) never quite established himself as an undisputed first-team regular during his time with Les Rouge et Bleu. A difficult situation to accept for the Portuguese striker, who, by joining AC Milan last summer, was ultimately able to turn a new page in his young career.

And whilst leaving PSG – a “very close-knit” squad – was painful for him, the striker absolutely has no regrets about his decision. “I wanted to leave PSG, but in January it’s always more complicated to leave,” explained Ramos – whose desire to leave dated back to the 2026 winter transfer window – in an interview with Canal 11. “It wasn’t the best option, even though I wanted it. Now I understand better. I was already at a stage where I wanted only one thing: to leave.”

While the club refused to let him depart in the middle of the season, due to a lack of a replacement, Luis Campos had nevertheless “given his word” to the forward that “he would let me leave this summer”. A promise honoured a few months later by PSG’s sporting director. “During the World Cup, I was in touch with Jorge (Mendes, his agent) and Milan’s interest became apparent,” Ramos explained. “Manager Ruben Amorim came here and rang me. That was also very important. One day, Jorge Mendes rang me in the morning and said: ‘The deal is done.’”
