Daniel Hemric suffered a devastating setback to his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship hopes during Friday's Love's RV Stop 225 at Talladega Superspeedway. The McAnally-Hilgemann Racing driver started 27th and finished 35th after being involved in a major accident during the opening stage.
Hemric entered the event hoping to improve his position in the championship Chase with only three races remaining entering the weekend. However, his opportunity to gain significant points ended almost immediately. On Lap 17, Stewart Friesen's Toyota became unstable while racing through Turns 1 and 2, triggering a massive chain-reaction accident.
Hemric was among the eight drivers collected, with his No. 19 Chevrolet sustaining damage that prevented him from continuing. The incident forced NASCAR to temporarily stop the race and ended Hemric's afternoon after just 16 completed laps. He was officially credited with 35th place and earned only two points.
The disappointing result significantly damaged his championship situation. Hemric remains seventh in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Chase standings with 2,177 points, trailing championship leader Kaden Honeycutt by 194 markers. The deficit mathematically eliminates Hemric from championship contention with just Martinsville and Homestead-Miami remaining.
He will now focus on improving his final championship position during the final two races.
