The Loncin title is one of the hardest to achieve as identically powered engines are allocated to drivers ensuring it is their technical ability behind the wheel that counts.
Jude became champion by winning all six races at the East of Scotland Kart Club at Crail. The following day he then went on to win the 2 x 30 minute endurance races confirming his ability as a top prospect in the highly competitive world of motor sport.
Following every twist and turn were dad Oly and grandfather, Glen Mortimer, as they relived similar successes in their own careers.
In the case of Oly he won the Scottish Mini Cooper Cup in 2023 and 2024 as well as the Driver of the Year Cup and the Knockhill Cup for most wins in a season. There was also success driving in Porche competitions.
More recently, with so much of his attention switching to assisting Jude, Oly has won some guest driver races.
It is very much as case of history repeating itself as Glen, now aged 76 and for 45 years an Edinburgh taxi driver, also took a backward step from his own racing career to oversee Oly’s progress despite the fact he was Scottish Road Saloon champion in 1985-87 inclusive. Also, Glen is a past winner of the prestigious Hartley White Trophy as best newcomer.
Glen says: “Jude will be aiming to continue in karting until he is 14 after which he is expected to switch to the junior saloon car circuit driving Fiestas and Minis.”
Sponsoring Jude are Neil Williams Haulage, The Edinburgh Paving and Landscape Company, AC’s mobile air conditioning services and Alistair Neil Macrae of Baptie Lifescience technology Limited.
