Celtic loanee Kyle Ure supplied an assist from left-back as Crewe Alexandra beat Rochdale 3-2 on Saturday.
The midfielder has been operating in the defensive role in recent weeks and made an important attacking contribution during the League Two victory.
Ure picked out Jordan Gibson inside the box to set up Crewe’s third goal and it was his first goal involvement for the club.
Keep up with the latest Celtic transfer rumours as they happen.
The former Celtic B captain joined Crewe in August after spending last season at Ayr United, where he made 19 appearances and assisted once.
He is highly rated in the youth academy, but is in his last year of his contract while out on loan in the EFL.
HE has been compared to Callum McGregor at times, and playing out a left-back, like the Celtic captain did in his early career, will keep those comparisons coming.
Playing at left-back brings different demands from his usual midfield role and it’s great to see he’s handling it well.
Saturday’s assist showed he can still influence matters further up the pitch while adapting to those responsibilities.
For a young player trying to establish himself in senior football, being trusted in another position can provide an additional route into the team.
The challenge for Ure is to build on that contribution and turn his opportunities at Crewe into a consistent run of performances.
His longer-term future at Celtic remains to be settled, but helping his loan club secure three points was an encouraging way to spend the weekend.
