‘Not my PROBLEM anymore’ – Roberto De Zerbi says ‘ask Vinai or Johan’ on Richarlison situation ahead of Coventry match

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi has distanced himself from the ongoing saga surrounding exiled forward Richarlison, directing transfer questions to executive leadership.

Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has firmly addressed the ongoing fallout involving exiled forward Richarlison, refusing to indulge in public squabbling following the Brazilian’s recent social media activity. Speaking in comments reported by Football London, the Italian head coach made it clear that the player’s contractual and squad status is no longer a matter under his direct control, pointing instead toward club executives Vinai Venkatesham and Johan Lange.

The manager’s stern response follows a period of heightened tension during which Richarlison publicly agreed with criticism regarding his omission from Tottenham’s registered Premier League squad. While De Zerbi acknowledged the weight of his leadership position, he maintained that the administrative decisions surrounding the forward lie outside his immediate coaching purview.

Rather than expanding on the perceived rift between player and management, De Zerbi cleanly separated his match-day duties from the broader contract disputes taking place behind the scenes at Hotspur Way. The Italian tactician emphasized that questions concerning the player’s future should be directed toward Chief Executive Officer Vinai Venkatesham and Technical Director Johan Lange, who oversee squad registration and transfer strategy.

“It’s not my problem anymore. You have to ask Vinai or Johan. It’s not my problem. I know as a coach I have to support and take responsibility even when it’s not my responsibility. I have not decided anything in this situation.”

Maintaining Focus on On-Pitch Priorities

Despite the public friction, De Zerbi reiterated that his office door remains open to the forward should he wish to address his concerns face-to-face in a professional environment. The manager noted that his long working hours at the training ground offer ample opportunity for dialogue, though he declined to discuss the matter further in public settings.

“If he wants to speak to me he can find me in my office until 8.30am until the evening. But I don’t want to speak any more because my focus is on the Coventry game.”

With Tottenham searching desperately for their first Premier League victory of the campaign, avoiding off-pitch distractions is paramount for the coaching staff. By shutting down further speculation and pivoting attention toward the upcoming match against Frank Lampard’s Coventry City, De Zerbi aims to keep his playing group fully centered on securing a vital three points on the pitch.
