Martin O’Neill has been chopping and changing his starting XI for all the wrong reasons in recent times.

From certain Celtic players’ abject form to injuries, amongst other things, it hasn’t allowed O’Neill to maintain a starting XI.

But Celtic’s 7-1 win over Hearts on Sunday in the Premiership. Added to O’Neill’s confirmation that Hyunjun Hang and Cameron Carter-Vickers aren’t yet available for action, should now make life easier for the previously under-fire manager.

Celtic host Celta Vigo in the Europa League on Thursday, with zero points to their name so far, knowing that defeat could shift the mood once more.

Celtic’s victory against Hearts may not be one of their biggest in SPFL history but it comes close. Where does that performance rank compared to their highest-scoring wins?

Since Hearts were a title rival last season, that's got to make it one of the best

Martin O’Neill says Hyunjun Yang and Cameron Carter-Vickers won’t be available for Celtic against Celta Vigo

Carter-Vickers and Yang were regular starters prior to their injuries, or the latter going away on South Korean duty to participate in the Asian Games.

Since then, Dane Murray had a very poor game against Benfica, along with Sebastian Tounekti failing to produce on the left flank once more.

But Murray’s comfortable afternoon against Hearts, along with Callum Osmand’s brace, should mean that the Celtic Park faithful shouldn’t be too fussed that Yang and Carter-Vickers won’t be available for Celta Vigo on Thursday night.

Reporter: “Are you expecting Yang back on Thursday night?”

O’Neill: “The answer would be no. Definitely not. He’s doing well. He is back on the grass, as they say now. He won’t be ready for a week or two yet.”

Reporter: “Cameron?”

O’Neill: “Cameron will, I think the earliest we would probably be seeing him is the Hibs game (on Sunday).”

Celtic’s starting XI now picks itself

Camilo Duran produced again as the starting striker, so Kasper Hogh has to watch on, while Yang and Carter-Vickers aren’t ready to reclaim their spots.

This allows Osmand to keep his place out wide, as well as Murray continuing at the heart of defence, and perhaps proving to some that he belongs at this level.

On paper, Murray is probably fourth choice, but you can only go off his last game, and he breezed through against Hearts, so he should keep his place in the XI when Celta come to visit.

The only reason why you would change up the midfield is to refresh because of the schedule. Other than that, don’t change the front three of Osmand, Duran and the livewire Haissem Hassan.
