The Los Angeles Rams were as shorthanded as they've been all season Sunday, which is saying something considering how banged up they've been this year. They were missing Nate Landman, Trent McDuffie, Davante Adams, Kobie Turner and Poona Ford, as well as the others who have been on IR.
So once again, Sean McVay and Chris Shula had to shuffle the personnel deck. The Rams used a committee to replace Adams at wide receiver, also leaning heavily on their tight ends with 13 personnel packages. At running back, Blake Corum saw an uptick in playing time, while Aaron Donald's snaps also increased with Turner and Ford out.
Here's a breakdown of the snap counts from Sunday's win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Kyren Williams still played more snaps than Corum, but just barely. He had 37 plays compared to 32 for Corum, and five of those snaps were on the final drive when the Rams were just milking the clock. Corum's 32 snaps were a season-high and his 44% snap share was his second-highest.
Without Adams, the Rams turned to a trio of receivers, though none of them had a meaningful impact. Konata Mumpfield played 43%, Tutu Atwell played 35% and Jordan Whittington played 21%. Mumpfield was the only one to catch a pass of the three, a 15-yarder. Alex Bachman and C.J. Daniels played three snaps on the final kneeldowns.
The Rams leaned heavily on their tight ends and 13 personnel, with all three of their active tight ends playing between 50 and 53 snaps. Tyler Higbee played 53 snaps, with Davis Allen and Colby Parkinson playing 50 each. That's really how they replaced Adams, not with a wide receiver.
The defense was particularly injured in this game. The Rams had to replace Landman at linebacker, doing so with Shaun Dolac. However, Dolac played just 13 total snaps, while Omar Speights saw an uptick in snaps by playing 59% of the game, tying a season-high.
Kam Curl and Jaylen Watson both left the game at various points, which is the only reason they didn't play every snap like they usually do. Quentin Lake and Josh Wallace were on the field 100% of the time, though. Emmanuel Forbes Jr. was the No. 3 cornerback with McDuffie out, playing 43% of the game.
Kam Kinchens saw his role grow with the Rams leaning more on nickel and dime packages. He played a season-high 82% of the snaps, while Jaylen McCollough also saw a season-high usage rate at 62%.
With Turner and Ford out, the Rams gave Aaron Donald more snaps. He played a season-high 74% of the snaps after averaging about 58% entering this game. Braden Fiske played 63% and Tyler Davis played 41%, as well. Even Ty Hamilton (26%) and Larrell Murchison (25%) saw increases in playing time.
Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart remain the top two edge rushers with Myles Garrett out, but Wesley Bailey saw a season-high 29 snaps in the win. He took snaps away from Stewart, who played 47 snaps. Desjuan Johnson and Darryl Peterson also played six and five snaps, respectively.
