Jurgen Klopp has managed some of the biggest names in soccer during his career, so it’s no wonder he struggles to name the best.
The 59-year-old has had a sensational career since he turned his hand to management back at Mainz in 2001. Since then, he has led Borussia Dortmund to back-to-back Bundesliga titles, won Liverpool’s first league title in 30 years, and become a European and world champion with the Reds.
Now managing his country, Klopp will be aiming to revive Germany’s fortunes, with the four-time World Cup winners having endured a rotten 12 years since last lifting the trophy in 2014.
In those 25 years as a manager, he has come into contact with some of the biggest names in soccer, and managed some of the best players in the world.
But when it comes to picking the best he ever coached, it still proves to be an impossible task - although there is one player who could hold an edge.
Klopp held a press conference this week for a group of children, in which he covered a wide range of topics from how he handles defeats to who does his grocery shopping. One child though posed the particularly challenging question of who the best player was that the former Liverpool boss had ever worked with.
“That’s very hard to say, because I’ve had the great luck that I have coached an incredible number of good players,” Klopp responded. “Really many, many good players. I don’t want to, I understand the question, but I don’t want to have to choose.”

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
Klopp though did offer some hints to the children as he went on to say: “I liked them all very much. And Robert Lewandowski still rings a bell for you, right?”
There was a rousing yes from the crowd before Klopp threw out another name: “Mohamed Salah?”
Again, the children reacted positively, with Klopp going on to name another Liverpool legend: “Sadio Mane?”
Once again, there was agreement among the crowd, although the next name didn’t quite illicit the same response: “Bobby Firmino?”
This time, while a few children did say yes, there was much more silence, which led Klopp to settle on his answer: “Then he is!”
The legendary Reds boss was quick to point out he was still joking though as he stuck by his original answer: “No, I really had many, many great football players and that’s why I don’t want to choose.”
