Jordan Henderson found himself at the center of much of the night on his return to Anfield with Chelsea while being seen arguing with Virgil van Dijk.
The former Liverpool captain was not afraid to get into it with the current captain, while looking to play the role of a leader with Chelsea. Henderson did find himself booed by a section of fans at Anfield, including a moment when he seemed to enjoy playing the villain by trying to fool Liverpool fans.
Henderson spent 12 years at Liverpool, winning every trophy possible as captain. And while he received a warm welcome as a Brentford player in May, some fans feel differently now that he's in Chelsea colors.
Despite not having the armband at Chelsea, which Moises Caicedo wears, Henderson was regularly speaking with the referee - something captains are permitted to do for discussions on incidents on the field.
At one point, Van Dijk approached the referee when Henderson and Caicedo had been around before Henderson could be seen shouting at the Liverpool skipper. Van Dijk appeared to respond while walking out of the shot, with another angle showing that Henderson continued to speak to his former teammate.
Later in the first half, Chelsea were given a penalty when Ryan Gravenberch fouled Caicedo in the box.
As Chelsea players discussed who would take the penalty, Henderson picked up the ball and walked about 15 yards to the penalty spot, appearing set to take the spot kick.
The camera panned to Henderson as some fans began to boo him while he smiled and laughed, before eventually giving the ball to Morgan Rogers, who scored.
Liverpool equalized just minutes later after Wesley Fofana handled the ball in the box from a corner when challenging Van Dijk, as Cody Gakpo sent Mike Penders the wrong way.
As the game went to penalties, Henderson had a huge moment while stepping up to take the fifth penalty - needing to score to keep Chelsea in the tie.
Henderson kept his nerve, striking the ball right down the middle to keep the tie alive.
Liverpool went on to win the tie after Joe Gomez scored from the spot, with Fofana shooting over the bar to send the Reds into the quarter-finals.
At the end of the game, Henderson and Van Dijk appeared to be speaking while making up quickly, having spent five years together as teammates.
