LSU wide receiver Jackson Harris will not return to the Tigers’ game against Mississippi State after injuring his ankle in the third quarter, the team’s radio broadcast said.
Harris, a Hawaii transfer, was hurt after he set up the LSU offense near the end zone with a 24-yard catch and run. He limped off the field and into the locker room before emerging later in the game in sweats with a walking boot on his left foot.
The reception was Harris’ sixth of the game, and it gave him 85 yards on the day. He also had two touchdowns catches.
Harris has emerged as one of quarterback Sam Leavitt’s top targets in recent weeks.
The redshirt junior caught six passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns in LSU’s Week 4 win over Texas A&M. Then, in a win over McNeese State and a loss to Kentucky, he added a combined 10 more receptions for 91 yards and a score.
Harris entered the game against Mississippi State as the Tigers’ second-leading receiver. He trailed only sophomore Winston Watkins, who had 29 catches for 416 yards and two touchdowns across the first six games of the year.
LSU also lost star pass rusher Princewill Umanmielen to a head injury in the first quarter of the game against Mississippi State.
