The Tennessee Titans made a drastic decision regarding Jordan Elliott. The 28-year-old defensive tackle was cut after an incident that occurred during a practice which, according to multiple reports, began with an argument between teammates and ended with Elliott heading to his car to retrieve a firearm.
'“Following our review of the incident, we have made the decision to release Elliott from our roster,” the Titans said.'
Details about what happened began to emerge afterward. According to reports, Elliott allegedly went to his vehicle to retrieve a weapon after the altercation during practice.
Nashville police did not receive any reports related to the episode, and no injuries were reported.
Elliott's departure from Tennessee does not necessarily mean the end of the case. The NFL is reviewing the incident and could determine whether any additional type of sanction is warranted for the player.
Titans coach Robert Saleh called what happened a “terrible lapse in judgment,” although he also said he hoped Elliott could get the help he needed.
Saleh especially highlighted Franklin-Myers' intervention, who managed to keep the situation from escalating.
Elliott did not participate in practice the day after the incident for what the team initially described as “personal reasons.” He also did not play on Sunday in Tennessee’s 26-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Five days after the episode, the Titans decided to definitively end their relationship with the player.
Elliott had arrived in Tennessee during the offseason on a two-year, eight-million-dollar contract. In his first five games with the team, he recorded 11 tackles.
Selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2020 Draft, the defender also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers before reuniting with Saleh in Tennessee.
Now, his time with the Titans ended abruptly and his future in the NFL remains subject to the league’s review. The team has already made its decision; any additional consequences are still to be determined.
