Can Chelsea continue their current winning streak? Last Saturday, the Blues claimed a first Premier League clean sheet since 17January, ending a 22 match sequence without one. More importantly, Pedro Neto was at the double to secure a 2-0 victory over Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
That made it back-to-back victories for Xabi Alonso's side, who had failed to win any of their three matches beforehand, but are back up to fourth, very much heading in the right direction again. The big games keep on coming, with Liverpool in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, before taking on Manchester United next Saturday. First and foremost, this is the fixture every Chelsea fan is always desperate to win, so will they have a victory to celebrate?
As for Tottenham Hotspur, on Monday night, they became the last side in England's top six tiers to claim a victory this season; Hallam and Stamford of the seventh division are still awaiting wins. Spurs beat fellow strugglers Coventry 3-1 at home, with James Maddison lashing home the opener, before long-range strikes from Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies secured three vital points.
This win saw Roberto De Zerbi's side climb up to 16th, having won lost three and drawn three beforehand, which would represent the club's highest league finish since 2024. Tottenham though have only won back-to-back Premier League games once since the first two games of last season so, while Monday was massive for morale, this team is far from fixed just yet.
No matter what is going on at both clubs, Chelsea always seem to beat Spurs at Stamford Bridge, and all available evidence suggests that Saturday evening will be no different.
Xabi Alonso is without Reece James and Pep Chavarría, so switched to a back four on Merseyside for the first time as Chelsea manager; will he stick with that system here? Moisés Caicedo alongside Jordan Henderson has become an unlikely midfield combination, while João Pedro makes such a difference whenever he leads the line.
Lastly, in goal, Emi Martínez "has undergone successful surgery on a fractured jaw", set for a couple of months on the sidelines. Thus, there will be a first-ever Premier League start for 21 year old Belgian Mike Penders.
Monday was James Maddison's first start since 1 May 2025 against Bodø/Glimt, marking the occasion with a goal, while Dejan Kulusevški also returned. The Swede had not featured for 526 days due to repeated knee injuries, so received a hero's reception when he came off the bench.
Kulusevški will be among the substitutes again, while Roberto De Zerbi remains without Destiny Udogie, Rodrigo Bentancur, Sávio, Lucas Bergvall, Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert. Meantime, Andy Robertson and former Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo both went off injured on Monday.
Mykhailo Mudryk would be ineligable to face his parent club if he wasn't injured anyway.
