Arsenal latest: Struggling star will '100% be sold' as internal complaints emerge

Arsenal are back to business this week in the Carabao Cup with a trip to League Two side Fleetwood Town

Players of Arsenal FC (L-R: Jurrien Timber, Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli, Eberechi Eze, Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Gabriel Magalhaes, Viktor Gyokeres, William Saliba) react during the penalty shootout of the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 final football match between Paris Saint-Germain FC and Arsenal FC.

Arsenal have drawn level on points at the top of the Premier League table with Manchester City and will now prepare for the Carabao Cup.

The Gunners have two away tests to contend with this week as they visit Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night before heading to Anfield for a blockbuster clash against Liverpool on Sunday. City lost their advantage on Mikel Arteta's side this past weekend after Aston Villa ran out 2-1 winners on Saturday.

The Gunners then produced a perfect victory over Everton with a clean sheet and two goals from Ezri Konsa and Gabriel. The north London outfit will now look ahead to an exciting clash with League Two side Fleetwood in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

Here, football.london has the latest coming out of the Emirates Stadium.

Complaints emerge

Former Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness maintains there'll be some internal complaints at Arsenal regarding staff reductions coinciding with Arteta's new contract extension. The Scot considers the club has given a "bad look" after revealing the redundancies around the same time as the Spaniard's fresh terms.

Arteta's new deal, which extends until June 2030, was announced publicly on October 7 and has included an increase on his £10million salary alongside bonuses of £5m annually. A week afterwards, Arsenal confirmed up to 60 job losses following a review undertaken by an external company.

He said: "It is a bad look, and I think it could have been avoided. I think it was all about timing. Look, they've obviously been in discussions with Mikel and his team for quite a while. They've obviously also been handling these redundancies and looking at the cost reductions for a while.

"So they've had time to think about this and to bring them out so close together. While they're not related, it's just a very bad look. There'll be a lot of moaning internally about the way it's done. And clubs exist very, very much on the staff. People don't understand just how valuable these people are within the clubs.

"We had this whole discussion about Man United and what a disastrous way they've handled it, and I must admit I would have expected a little bit better from Arsenal. Had it been two or three months apart, the whole thing wouldn't have looked connected."

Struggling star will '100% be sold'

Gabriel Agbonlahor believes that Viktor Gyokeres will "100% be sold" before the next campaign after struggling to leave his mark this year. The Swedish striker featured from the start in the victory over Everton and registered the slightest of assists for Konsa's opening goal.

However, Agbonlahor heavily criticised the striker on talkSPORT as he insisted the 28-year-old was "running in slow motion." He said: "Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ. Looks like he's like running in slow motion, isn't he? Looks like he can't run.

"Can he hold the ball up? Yes, he can, but he will be one that won't be at the club next season. Yeah, 100%. They would have got rid of him this season if they could have for [Julian] Alvarez. If Alvarez wanted to come and hadn't turned Arsenal down, they would have said, 'I would give you Gyokeres and money.'"

In the Premier League, Gyokeres has featured in the starting line-up just once this season, accumulating just 148 minutes of action. He is yet to get off the mark across 10 appearances in all competitions.
