Forest Green Rovers have bolstered their youthful squad with the signing of experienced striker Will Grigg on a free transfer from Chesterfield.

The 35-year-old has signed a contract at The New Lawn until June 2028, and goes straight into the squad to face Barrow in Cumbria on Saturday.

The player has previously been linked with Shrewsbury Town. His contract at Chesterfield was renewed last year ago and was due to end next summer.

Grigg has made more than 500 appearances in the English Football League, representing Walsall, Brentford, MK Dons, Wigan Athletic, Sunderland, Rotherham United and Chesterfield.

The striker has scored 192 career goals, including one of the most memorable strikes of his career when he scored the only goal as Wigan Athletic famously knocked Manchester City out of the FA Cup in 2018.

Grigg made his senior debut for Northern Ireland in 2012 and has since earned 12 international caps, scoring three goals.

More recently, he made more than 100 appearances for Chesterfield between 2023 and 2026, finding the net 43 times.

He was also part of the Spireites side that won the National League title in 2024, helping secure their return to the Football League.

His arrival adds significant experience and a proven goalscoring record to Forest Green’s youthful squad, with Grigg now committing his future to the club until the summer of 2028.
