Plymouth were knocked off top spot in League One as Huddersfield produced an impressive display to win 2-0 at Home Park.
Derensili Sanches Fernandes and Bojan Radulovic struck to send the Terriers up to third, ahead of Argyle who plummeted to fourth after a second defeat in three home outings.
Argyle goalkeeper Murphy Cooper made a superb diving save to keep out Fernandes' angled drive in the fourth minute.
But two minutes later Fernandes found a way past Cooper after being teed up by Joe Taylor and unleashing an unstoppable shot.
Cooper somehow kept out Cameron Humphreys' deft chip from 20 yards, which looked destined for the top corner until the keeper clawed the ball away.
Argyle's number one then made brilliant back-to-back saves to deny Taylor from close range and then Radulovic on the follow-up.
Radulovic made it 2-0 in the 55th minute with a diving header from Bali Mumba's exquisite left-wing cross.
Substitute Oliver Irow forced Matty Young into a save in the 71st minute as Argyle finally exerted some pressure.
Fellow sub Xavier Amaechi twice tested Young within a minute and Caleb Watts fired just wide in the 86th minute but it was too little too late.
