After trading wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos back in March, the Miami Dolphins entered the 2026 NFL Draft with two first-round picks and walked out with offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor and cornerback Chris Johnson.
Proctor was the first of the two selections, and when he took the field for the Dolphins for the first time, he was lining up at a completely new position, moving from left tackle to left guard. Through the first six games, the 21-year-old has looked serviceable in his new role, but he's not satisfied with his performance thus far.
"I'm nowhere near where I need to be, for sure," Proctor told reporters on Monday. "But I feel like, in the run game, I've always been a mauler. I just need to focus on staying on blocks and finishing blocks, just having more effort, in that regard. And then pass pro, just focusing on my hands. Sometimes I get a little reachy, which was OK when I was playing left tackle sometimes, but you can get beat inside a lot quicker. So you have to be very accurate with your hands at left guard, so focus on that."
Proctor has been on the field for every single offensive snap so far this season, joining his quarterback and three other offensive linemen (Patrick Paul, Austin Jackson and Aaron Brewer) in that effort.
Pro Football Focus has graded Proctor as the 31st-best guard in the league with a 64.8. He's also No. 41 in pass blocking (60.8) and No. 26 in run blocking (67.2).
Proctor's performance hasn't been perfect, but there's been enough positives that the team has to be pleased with what they've seen, and if he can tighten up some of those areas that he's talking about, they've got a great player on their hands.
