As a German multilingual, fluent in German, English, Spanish, and a few other languages, he combines his professional background in finance and accounting with a lifelong passion for Bayern Munich and football. When he’s not crunching numbers, he’s probably crunching Bayern’s chances of winning another trophy, and somehow the math always works out.

Bayern Munich will be without Joshua Kimmich for Wednesday’s DFB-Pokal clash against 1. FC Magdeburg as the midfielder takes time away from the team following a family bereavement. His potential return against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday will depend on his emotional state (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

According to Frank Linkesch of Kicker, Kimmich is expected to attend the funeral before rejoining his teammates. The Germany international could then be available for Bayern’s Bundesliga meeting with Dortmund, provided he feels ready to return:

Bayern confirmed last week that Kimmich would miss the Champions League match against Arsenal because of a death in his immediate family. The club also asked the public to respect the family’s privacy and refrain from further inquiries or reporting.

The 31-year-old’s absence is significant for Vincent Kompany’s side, with Kimmich an important figure in Bayern’s midfield and a regular presence in the starting lineup. However, the club’s priority is allowing the midfielder the time and space he needs during a difficult personal period.

Bayern face Magdeburg at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. The match offers the reigning cup holders a chance to advance in a competition they will be eager to win again this season.

Saturday’s meeting with Dortmund is another major fixture, with both sides expected to be competing for the top spot in the Bundesliga table. Kimmich’s possible availability would provide a boost, but his return should not be treated as guaranteed.

For now, Bayern will have to prepare for Magdeburg without one of their key midfielders. Whether Kimmich features against Dortmund will depend on how he feels after attending the funeral and rejoining the squad. The club has good reason to put his well-being ahead of any immediate sporting considerations.erations.
