Carlton Cole has heard that Mohamadou Kante will soon be rewarded with a new contract at West Ham United after assisting Divine Mukasa’s winner away to Swansea City on Saturday.

With just over half an hour gone in South Wales, Kante darted onto a Pablo through-ball and set up Mukasa to score the only goal of the game between two sides sitting first and third respectively at the beginning of the weekend.

That was Mukasa’s third goal since returning to West Ham United on loan from Manchester City. Mohamadou Kante, meanwhile, has four goal contributions in his last five Championship outings.

And speaking a couple of days after the young Frenchman helped cut the gap between the Hammers and the Swans to just one point, former striker turned Loans and Pathways Manager Carlton Cole revealed that he is expected to put pen to paper in the near future.

Mohamadou Kante could sign a new deal at West Ham United

“[West Ham] got a great result over the weekend,” Cole, who still works behind the scenes at the London Stadium, said on the Dressing Room Podcast. “They had a great result during the midweek, Lincoln away 6-0, and then they go on. This was the game that really mattered.

“Swansea are actually flying at the moment. They’re playing some great stuff, but to go away from home to a team like that and win 1-0 was a massive, massive thing. Big up Divine Mukasa, you know, we’ve been singing his praises for quite a while, and Mo Kante as well.

“Mo Kante, he’s a boy that we bought from Paris and he’s a very, very good prospect. And I think he’s about to sign a new contract with us!”

It is almost a year to the day that Kante extended his West Ham deal until the summer of 2031. The midfielder had not even made a first-team appearance at that point, impressing instead with Mark Robson’s Under-21s.

The Hammers paid only £400,000 to sign Kante from Paris FC back in 2024, and he is rapidly turning into one of the club’s best bargain signings in recent years.

“I’m really enjoying it. Well done to Nuno for finding the strength to play these younger players,” adds Cole, 21-year-old Kante assisting 19-year-old Mukasa at Swansea. “Because sometimes, you know, everyone goes, ‘Ah, play experience, you need experience.’

“No, sometimes you just need some youth that are not scared and go out there to do their bit for the club.”
