Sunderland release official statement making clear their concerns about Newcastle United decision

Sunderland have released an official statement after it became public on Monday what the arrangements are for their away game against Newcastle United.

The derby game to be shown on Sky Sports and taking place on Sunday 6 December with a 2pm kick-off.

Newcastle United then released an official statement revealing that it was going to be a ‘Bubble’ match for Sunderland fans.

The Mackems all having to travel on official coaches if they want to go to the game.

Sunderland now making clear their displeasure with the ‘Bubble’ decision: ‘Following a decision by Newcastle’s Safety Advisory Group (SAG), Sunderland AFC can confirm that supporters attending our Premier League away fixture against Newcastle United (Sunday 6 December, 2pm kick-off) will be required to travel by organised coach. Throughout this process, the Club has engaged with the relevant authorities, setting out clearly our concerns about the impact of a full bubble operation on Sunderland supporters, particularly the restrictions on individual travel choices and the additional inconvenience for supporters. Whilst we do not agree with the decision that has been reached, we recognise that this decision will disappoint many supporters who would prefer to make their own travel arrangements. While respecting the SAG’s decision, we have sought clarity on the revised risk assessment and requested transparency as to how the end decision has been made.’

The Wearside club have also confirmed that they will get a thousand tickets less than the usual away allocation for Premier League clubs when they visit St James’ Park: ‘Sunderland AFC will receive an allocation of 2,200 tickets. The Club is working to confirm coach pick-up points and will share further details, alongside ticketing and travel information, as soon as possible. Specific arrangements will be made for supporters with accessibility requirements. Supporters without tickets are strongly advised not to travel to Newcastle on the day of the fixture. We are exploring options to enable fans to watch the match at the Stadium of Light and will provide further information once arrangements have been confirmed.’
