Duke Blue Devils cornerback Kimari Robinson found himself at the center of controversy after a heated interaction with a member of the Duke training staff in their Week 7 loss to North Carolina. On Tuesday, Robinson expressed remorse publicly in a message posted on his social media account.
The incident occurred following an injury suffered by DaShawn Stone, which Robinson was seemingly quite concerned about. Standing next to his teammate, Robinson lost his cool when a trainer attempted to move Robinson out of the way to tend to Stone, which resulted in Robinson swatting the female trainer's hand away.
It didn't take long for the video to go viral on social media, which didn't exactly paint Robinson in the best light, given that the trainer was simply trying to do her job and tend to the injured Duke player.
In a post on social media, Robinson explained his mindset that led to the viral interaction, detailing that he views Stone "like family" and was simply concerned about him. He would go on to say that regardless of his concern for his teammate, there is "no excuse" for how he conducted himself.
"I want to publicly apologize to the member of our training staff for how I acted toward her during Saturday's game," wrote Robinson in a post on X. "I was completely wrong, and she did not deserve that. Immediately after the game, I apologized to her personally and checked to make sure she was okay. The injured player on the ground, DaShawn Stone, is like family to me, and I was scared he might be seriously hurt. But being worried about him does not excuse how I treated her. I should have controlled my emotions, and I didn't. I'm truly sorry for my actions and for letting her, myself, and our program down. I have to be better than that."
Thus far, no punishment has been handed down to Robinson following this incident. So it looks like he will try to put this incident behind him when Duke takes to the road in Week 8 to face off against the Virginia Cavaliers on Friday night.
