The indoor swing has arrived in the ATP calendar, with Carlos Alcaraz among the players looking to clinch a title.
Alcaraz has accepted a wildcard for the Vienna Open, which returns to the schedule later this month. The ATP 500 tournament coincides with the Basel Open in Switzerland, with the events arriving just ahead of the ATP Masters 1000 Paris.
The Spanish superstar made his last appearance at the Shanghai Masters, where Alcaraz was stunned by Zizou Bergs in just his second match. But he will soon make the transition from outdoor to indoor, for which Alcaraz should be confident given his history in that environment.
Alcaraz has made just one indoor singles appearance in his 2026 season, defeating Taylor Fritz at the Laver Cup. The Spaniard also partnered with Jakub Mensik to defeat Fritz and Alexander Bublik in doubles, with Team Europe going on to lift the trophy.
His singles record on indoor courts for 2026 is, therefore, 1-0, while his entire career record stands at 36-15. And he does indeed boast an indoor title, having secured success at Rotterdam in 2025.
Alcaraz is a 27-time ATP champion, with his 26 other titles having arrived on outdoor courts. He has made just one appearance at the Vienna Open previously, reaching the semifinals on debut in the 2021 season.
While Alcaraz has enjoyed the majority of his success outdoors as opposed to indoors, he has been able to emerge victorious on all three surfaces available; clay, grass and hard. Most significantly, he has claimed Grand Slam titles on all three, having completed the career Grand Slam at this year’s Australian Open.
In terms of overall career success, 12 of his 27 titles have come on hard courts, followed by 11 on clay and four on grass. It truly is a stunning honours list at the age of just 23, with his remarkable achievements also involving a rise to world number one.
