The Chicago Bears announced several roster moves ahead of Sunday's Week 6 game against the Atlanta Falcons, including activating cornerback Kyler Gordon from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to the active roster.
Gordon has been on the PUP list since the start of training camp as he dealt with a calf injury, but he returned to practice back on Sept. 30. Gordon has been one of the NFL's best nickel cornerbacks, when healthy, and his impact on this defense is noticeable. But Gordon has yet to play an entire season in his now fifth NFL season.
The Bears also placed defensive lineman Dayo Odeyingbo, who's battling a quad injury, on injured reserve in a corresponding roster move. Odeyingbo will miss at least the next four games.
Chicago signed defensive back Nick McCloud to the active roster while releasing defensive back Xavier Woods. The Bears also elevated linebacker Buddy Johnson and running back Zavier Scott from the practice squad for Sunday's game.
With Gordon's return, he figures to assume the nickel cornerback job with rookie Malik Muhammad kicking outside and defensive back Cam Lewis moving to safety alongside rookie Dillon Thieneman, which explains Woods' release.
